Driving Student Growth and Delivering Specialized Support in the Face of Uncertainty with K-12 Funding

In the face of uncertainty surrounding funding, driving student growth, and delivering specialized support is a challenge at the forefront of K-12 educational stakeholders’ minds. While Emergency Relief Funding (ESSER) has been instrumental in addressing various needs resulting from the pandemic, we must recognize that Special Education (SPED) funding is a cornerstone of support for students with unique learning requirements – a state and federal commitment that remains unwavering despite other uncertainties and limitations.

At Intervene K-12, we are dedicated to providing specialized support to special education students, ensuring that their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and accommodations are seamlessly integrated within our virtual tutoring platform. Our approach is anchored in data-driven tailored instruction, accommodation provision, and engagement strategies that create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Who We Support

We serve a diverse range of special populations, including students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), speech/language impairment, specific learning disabilities, emotional disturbance, other health impairments, dyslexia, autism spectrum disorders, and students requiring transition programming. Our solutions feature specially designed grade-level reading and math content within the least restrictive environment, aiming to foster a deeper understanding of learning objectives through both remediation and acceleration based on data. Additionally, we focus on embedded accommodations with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and support social-emotional academic learning for all students.

Learner Variability and Individualized Instruction

We recognize that each learner has different learning styles, strengths, and areas of opportunity. Our tutors tailor instruction to accommodate individual needs, providing additional explanations, modifying lessons, and offering alternative learning resources. We ensure that our virtual tutoring platform supports a variety of Individualized Education Plan (IEP) accommodations to create an inclusive learning experience for every student

Gradual Release of Responsibility

The Gradual Release of Responsibility is a key component of our approach at Intervene K-12, and it’s important to highlight its transformative impact on student learning. By gradually shifting the cognitive load from the teacher to the students, it helps students build confidence and improves long-term retention. Additionally, we break down complex concepts into manageable chunks, empowering students to take an active role in their education and become more independent learners. Through this framework, we foster an inclusive and supportive environment where students are encouraged to ask questions, seek clarification, and develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter before applying their skills and knowledge on their own.

Engagement Strategies and Collaboration

Our goal is to keep learners engaged by incorporating interactive activities, such as quizzes and discussions, into the tutoring sessions. We encourage active participation, prompting students to share their thoughts and experiences related to the content. Furthermore, collaborate closely with special education teachers, counselors, and therapists to ensure that the specific needs of special education students are comprehensively addressed, including the development and implementation of IEPs and 504 plans. Aligning with school’s support services is essential to providing optimal support for each student and monitoring their progress as they transition from one grade to the next.

Cultural Sensitivity

Culturally Responsive Pedagogy is a foundational principle at Intervene K-12, guiding our approach to education. This pedagogy provides a baseline for respecting diverse cultural backgrounds and addressing potential language barriers, creating an inclusive and respectful learning environment. By embracing cultural sensitivity, we ensure that every student feels valued, understood, and supported in their academic journey.

Feedback and Improvement

By gathering feedback from students and tutors through a proprietary survey tool, we continually assess the effectiveness of our tutoring approach and make necessary adjustments. This reflection enables us to provide professional development opportunities, ensuring that our instructors can effectively support special education students. We strive for continuous improvement to have the greatest impact on our students and their success.

Overall, in driving student growth and delivering specialized support, our commitment to serving special education students remains resolute. By focusing on tailored instruction, accommodating diverse needs, and fostering an engaging and inclusive learning environment, we empower special populations to thrive in our virtual tutoring settings, ensuring that every student feels seen, supported, and motivated.

At Intervene K-12, we don’t just believe in making a difference – we actively work towards it. Let’s break barriers and pave the way for a future where every learner can achieve their full potential.
